Project Pothchola

Project Pothchola is a project under Give Bangladesh Foundation which works with the children of sex-workers to help them realize their potential and integrate with mainstream society. The project works for the mental development of the children of sex-workers, with the vision of helping them grow up as healthy individual decision makers overcoming the challenges faced by their birth identity.

Launched in 2014, we have been collaborating with Ms. Hazera Begum from “Shishuder Jonno Amra” since the inception of the project. In 2018, Project Pothchola started working with the children of BASHA Enterprise. Towards the end of 2020, this project has been expanded with the brothel of Daulatdia and started working with the sex-worker’s children in 2021. With the help of Project Pothchola’s regular medical camp and check-ups, many kids have received medical treatment till date. Until now, it has engaged more than 300 enthusiastic young minds among which 70 volunteers are currently working together. Lately, we have added a hallmark in our journey through syncing with Project Lorai’s initiative for building alternative income source for sex workers, so that they do not drag their children who will be under our supervision in a shelterhome named “Joy Shokol Shishur” in Uttara, into the same vicious cycle of prostitution. Our mission is to reach 100 sex workers & Floating Sex workers, and help 100 children groom up in the process- within next 3 years.

Besides taking regular educational sessions for the children for their mental and moral development, the project is geared towards arranging innovative events and programmes for the kids – helping them feel a sense of inclusion within the mainstream society. The range of the events held so far include annual book reading challenges, cultural events etc.
